Good times must come to an end...
Unfortunately, that is Wellesley rugby for me. I'll admit, there were ups and downs (see 2 posts down), but in the end I'm going to miss the hell out of it. Our last game was on Saturday against MIT (KILLED them 68-0) and we just had our Alum game yesterday.
This has definietly been a formidable point in my Wellesley life; I can't imagine not having played rugby. I think I seriously would have been too goddamn bored. Also, who would all my friends be? Rugby provided me with my insta-friends.
MIT's game, while a complete blowover, was not the prettiest rugby. No, that was last week at Beast of the East. The wonder of the Wellesley team pulled through with the magic of Beast of the East. It seems the team always performs amazingly at the tournament, no matter how shittily we've been playing in the season/year. And this year was no exception, thank goodness. I seriously doubted if we'd earned the right to go, since we were playing the worst I'd ever seen, but it all came together. We ended up 3rd (perhaps 4th, we'll never know) in the friggin' WINNERS bracket of Women's Div II. That has never happened to me. We played amazinginly. Words cannot express. I saw true back-forward cohesion in the games, good quick decisions, phase after phase, support, sliding, etc. all the things designated as "good rugby." Yup, it was definitely there. We eventually lost to UNH in the semi-finals, but we still played 4 good games of rugby in one weekend. I am so proud of my team. Way to hold it together!
Now, it's Monday and for the first time in 4 years, I have to contemplate not ever playing Wellesley rugby again. Never doing warm-up again, stinkers with Dee, or playing with the rest of my team. I will miss them. I love Wellesley rugby.
Currently procrastinating from: My ARTH 250 paper. It seems like I only 3 pages to go, but really, I have 4 more sections of my outline to go. It's tragic.
Currently listening to: Some good ol' Bach
